About the project
The project consists of a six-floor structure, with an almost complete reconstruction of the interior to provide a central passage leading to each floor. The basement will include a garage for residents‘ parking; the top floor is a separate apartment split over two floors, with a roof terrace overlooking the entire town. The façade preserves the original stucco features of its earlier guise, whilst the apartments are created as to preserve their innate antique nobility infused with the polished purity of modern architecture.
In revamping this magnificent structure, in keeping with the building’s short-lived name The Majestic, the utmost effort to preserve the building’s age-old austere presence as the dominant beacon rising from beyond the town’s great colonnade. To this end, the present version aims to retain these features through its imposing façade, but also reproduce the impression of comfort and elegance in the interior through a modern approach. The ingenious design to make both these goals easily achievable is to create a new glass atrium to illuminate the means by which all floors are serviced. This translucence, fostered by a both a glass staircase and lift, enhances not just the beauty of the internal structure, but frees up a vast amount of space between and within the adjoining apartments. These, in turn, benefit from large luxurious windows of their own on every side, letting a good measure of direct sunlight enlivening and invigorating the modern living quarters. In addition, where possible, the original beautiful Baroque high ceilings have remained as they once were, complete with their original stucco features.
The luxurious elegance of clarity so meticulously planned out by an international team of architects, working under the guidance of the world-renowned Eva Jiřičná (already a legend in the history of Czech architecture with countless award-winning projects both in the Czech Republic and Great Britain), makes „Sněžka“ an exceptional structure to remain Marienbad’s leading light for decades to come.
